Sabora’s Summer Event: Tickets now on sale

Our annual summer celebration is coming together in every sense!

Once again we are working with Sturry Church with the support of Sturry Parish Council. Just like last year we are spreading the events over two days.

Friday 17th and
Saturday 18th of July.

We kick off on Friday night with a performance from popular local musicians CJ Jones and Dave Reay. Starting at 7.30pm they will be performing a great blend of rock and pop favourites.

Tickets are £12 (£10 for Sabora members). Just follow the links below or pop into Chapters in Sturry High Street where there are physical tickets available, too!

There will be a bar selling refreshments to help the party atmosphere.

On Saturday we are reviving the Strawberry Tea, an annual highlight of the Sturry social calendar previously held in the garden of local historian, Kinn MacIntosh. Admission is free.

This, now will be held in the church – along with art and craft stalls, plant sales and a Treasure Hunt for the children.

And to accompany all this we are introducing our first Sabora Open Mic Session. From 12 to 3 we are inviting local musicians and performers to come and entertain us in 20 minute bursts! It’s free to enter and performers can keep any busking receipts. For details on how to take part, please contact info@sabora.co.uk in the first instance. There are more details below…

Here are more details from our technical support person…

WE have use of a PA and therefore we can accommodate / provide the following in the church:

  • A large number of UNAMPLIFIED singers and musicians.
  • TWO vocal mics provided.
  • TWO instruments inputs provided.
  • If anyone brings a keyboard it will be tricky, unless they have it all set up and ready to take on stage.
  • We will provide a CAJON (percussion).  Our technician is able to pick up songs and playing ad hoc, and will play for anyone who wants percussion, as well as providing backing vocals if he knows the song well enough.
  • There will be an  acoustic guitar that can be plugged into the desk which people can borrow if they don’t have one.
  • If anyone wants to play bass, they will have to bring their own bass amp and bass guitar.

People need to clearly understand that they will have 20 minutes to set up, play, and get off stage… that gives them approx 3 songs if they don’t faff around too much!!  For this reason, it’s best that potential performers know that a simple set up will work best for them to get the best sound on the day.  It’s hard to properly balance live sound with a very short set up time. We’ll talk to people on the day, and remind them to tune up, get as ready as possible, etc, before their performance slot.

We need to know in advance performers proposed play list and set up requirements. Email info@sabora.co.uk.  Total capacity is for eight acts at 20 minutes each = 2:40 hours, with 20 minutes of wriggle room!!

If only 3 sets of performers turn up, then we will be able to give them more performance time and be more flexible.

We strongly suggest that any performers ONLY play songs that they know well… not “something I only learnt last night and I’m not very good at it…”

Please note that you only have a short time to show the best that you can do, and entertain the audience with a positive performance!!

If you have any queries, please ask. We are here to help you.
